Sara's Richmond, VA Bridal Portraits

Sara and Brandon were married today on 10/10/10 so I finally get to share some of my favorite images from Sara's bridal portrait session in downtown Richmond a few weeks ago!  We met up at Shockoe Slip which made an awesome location.  We then headed over to Brown's Island to finish the evening.  We barely beat the rain, but the overcast skies gave us perfect lighting!  We're off photographing their wedding right now, but thanks to the wonders of blogging technology, this post is going up while we work! You'll be seeing some more of these images because my good friend Randy from Monarch Productions was there filming some behind-the-scenes footage for our new promo video!

The last two images really show Sara's creativity and free spirit!  We can't wait to share their wedding day images with you soon even though none have been taken at the time I'm writing this since the wedding is tomorrow.  For now I'm off to bed because the wedding is at 11:00am, which means an 8:00 start time which means we are leaving the house at 6:30am!  Sara it was so much fun to capture these images with you.  Enjoy!

Sneak Peek of Ben and Emili's Trash the Dress Portrait Session

I've never been a huge fan of the name "trash the dress" because it sounds tacky.  So when Ben and I started brainstorming about this a year ago, I knew I wanted to make it look classy, yet make it a fun experience for them.  Ben and Emili have been such great friends for a long time and they've been married for eight years.  We ran around Charlottesville this afternoon creating some very fun and memorable images.  Here is a quick sneak peek of their session.  You can see a few more on our facebook page.  There will be more to come!

Sara's Richmond Bridal Portrait Sneak Peek

I met up with Sara this afternoon in Shockoe Bottom, a beautiful historic area of Richmond for her bridal portraits.  Sara and Brandon are getting married on 10/10/10 in Richmond and after our time together today, I cannot wait until their wedding!  Sara is extremely creative, relaxed, and she makes a beautiful bride.  I obviously can't share many images from her bridal session, but here is a quick one to give you a hint at what is to come!  Check back after October 10 to see more!

Erica and Alex's Carter Mountain Engagement Portraits

Alex sent me an email five days ago saying that he and his fiancee were going to be in Charlottesville on a little vacation this weekend and would love to have some engagement portraits taken while they were in town.  I'm so glad that it worked out because this is the only free weekend we have until November!  It was such a pleasure to meet them this morning at Carter Mountain Orchard. I always enjoy the challenge of photographing clients in familiar places where I've shot before.  I don't like creating the same staged images and I know our clients aren't looking for the same exact poses in the same exact places as everyone else who has ever been photographed there!  So I see each photo shoot as an adventure - a search for the best light in the best locations.  That is part of why I enjoyed my time with Alex and Erica this morning - they were willing to tromp through the orchards and try anything I threw at them!

We wrapped up just as it was getting a bit too hot and I'm thrilled with how they turned out.  Here are a few of my favorites so far.  Erica and Alex, thanks again for finding us and for letting me document this special time for you!  I wish you the best as you make all your plans for the future!

Sneak Peek of Kyle and Paul's Charlottesville Engagement Portraits

I had a blast last night with Kyle and Paul as we roamed the streets of downtown Charlottesville on into the night!  The rain clouds took away the dreams of a gorgeous sunset and made it dark a lot earlier than normal, so we got creative, found some cool spots and I love how they turned out! Here is a quick peek at one of my favorites.  I can't wait to share some more very soon.

Charlottesville senior portraits: Shelby

I met up with Shelby at the Boar's Head Inn earlier this evening for a senior portrait session.  Her family is neighbors of some friends that I photographed in the fall of last year.  I was so excited when Shelby's mother contacted me earlier this summer because we love referrals!  It was great to finally meet them in person tonight - they are such a sweet family and we had a really good time exploring the beautiful grounds around the Inn. Shelby is headed into her senior year in a few weeks and I get the impression that she's in for a great year!  When I got home, Sarah hijacked the computer and selected her favorite images.  I think I agree that these are some of my favorites as well.  Shelby, please let me know where you got your shirt in the last few images - Sarah REALLY likes it and wants on just like it!  Good luck this year Shelby!

Family portraits in Charlottesville: Jayne, John, Max, and Francesca

On Saturday evening, I had the pleasure of photographing another wonderful family we met nearly a year ago.  Jayne was Sarah's first doula client when we moved to Charlottesville and I was thrilled to finally have a chance to meet their whole family!  We met up on Jayne and John's 8th anniversary at the Inn at Court Square in downtown Charlottesville.  We spent a while with their energetic son, Max and their beautiful daughter Francesca.  Max kept us hopping until he finally crashed and the babysitters whisked the kids away, leaving us to get some anniversary portraits of Jayne and John!  Here are a few of my favorites from our time together. jayne1-1

In order to achieve the photo above, we let Max leap off the bed and bounce onto the ottoman into his dad's arms for a split second moment.  It took several attempts, but Max thoroughly enjoyed the process!  Here he is warming up!
